Nautical Science provides the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary in the field, preparing students for employment in marine transportation. Sea experience broadens the opportunities for ships’ officers who may later be interested in shore-based positions. With technological advancements in the Marine industry the subsequent need for technical experts on board the ship is steadily on the rise.

Student Prospects
Commercial shipping, including Container Vessels, Bulk carriers etc. pleasure yachts, cruise ships, or oil rigs - a career in the marine industry offers challenging work and unlimited rewards. The BNS Graduates find immediate employment as a Deck Cadet for six months with lucrative stipends of about US $ 700 (RS. 35,000). Thereafter, a oral examination conducted by MMD gets one a Second Mates’ Foreign Going Certificate, allowing him to join as a 3rd officer. When one gets promoted as the Captain of a Ship, salaries can skyrocket to about US $ 8000.
Eligibility Criteria
- The BNS course entails direct admission to the Institute.
- Candidates must have an aggregate of 60% with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in their 10+2 or any equivalent examination.
- Candidates must have received 50% marks in English in their Class X or Class XII examinations.
- The age-limit is 25 years.
- The candidate must be physically fit with no colour blindness, eyesight within + /- 2.5 for MRE, 6/6 for BNS
