Mechanical Engineering (ME) is a discipline of engineering that applies the principles of physics and materials science for analysis, design, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems. It is the branch of engineering that involves the production and usage of heat and mechanical power for the design, production, and operation of machines and tools. It is one of the oldest and broadest of engineering disciplines.
The B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering at ITME is a four-year course in eight semesters that focuses on key areas of Mechanical engineering in order to prepare graduates for a wide and varied range of career opportunities. The broad fields of ME are applied mechanics and engineering design, thermal sciences and energy systems, and manufacturing processes and systems. The areas also include Bond graph and Computer Aided Design techniques, Computer Aided Manufacturing, Flexible Manufacturing Systems and Robotics, Intelligent Machines and Systems, Solid Modelling and Computer Graphics, Application of Neural Networks, Systems Dynamic Simulation, Precision Engineering Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning systems, Combustion Modelling and Jet Impingement Heat Transfer. Modern industries demand a high degree of precision, calling for multi-skilled engineers with the knowledge and ability to design and implement Mechanical systems.
Affiliation:
The Mechanical Engineering programme at ITME is affiliated to the West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT) and approved by AICTE.
Student Prospects
As more and more intelligent devices make their way into our everyday life, the scope of Mechanical System is increasing manifold. Opportunities exist and are growing in areas of Computer Aided Design techniques, Computer Aided Manufacturing, Flexible Manufacturing Systems and Robotics, Intelligent Machines and Systems, Systems Dynamic Simulation, Precision Engineering Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning systems, Combustion Modelling and Jet Impingement Heat Transfer. As the industry seeks out novel applications to adopt a wider role every day, requirement for qualified engineers who have specialised in this branch of mechanical technology is greater than ever.
