The Discipline in a nutshell

Marine Engineering as a branch of study deals with nautical architecture and science. Its academic scope encompasses every kind of research conducted in oceans and in coastal or inland waters. Technically, Marine Engineering includes every aspect of design, construction and maintenance of ships and other sailing vessels. Therefore, Marine Engineers have the complete responsibility of the ship's procedural management.

ITME was the first private institute to start a Marine Engineering discipline in Eastern India. The B.Tech programme has been designed to train Marine Engineers in compliance with national and international competency standards. The course is conducted and supervised by highly qualified and experienced faculty members who have expert knowledge of maritime transport and marine engineering along with sufficient exposure to IMO regulations. The programme incorporates intense physical and leadership training – a must for all graduates ready to ride the waves.

Affiliation:

The Course is approved by AICTE, WBUT and The Directorate General of Shipping, Govt. of India.

Student Prospects

A career in the Marine industry offers satisfying work opportunities in many directions - commercial shipping, high-speed passenger transportation, naval ships, submersibles, pleasure yachts, cruise ships, aircraft carriers or oilrigs, the choice is extensive.

Due to continuous growth of worldwide fleet (BIMCO report), shipping companies are facing shortage of qualified personnel. Even entry-level positions like that of Trainee Marine Engineer is highly challenging professionally and brings with it attractive service benefits, quick promotion avenues, high salary and shore-based opportunities.

It is indeed a step forward in simulated learning.

In addition to the unique Ship-in-campus, ITME’s Marine Engineering Department comprises a set of advanced laboratories that are stocked with necessary equipment for practical sessions. Some of the facilities are –

  • Applied Mechanics Laboratory
