The Discipline in a nutshell

Information technology (IT) is the study, design, development, implementation, support or maintenance of computer-based information systems. As a field of study it is continually advancing and evolving, creating new and exciting career opportunities for skilled professionals. The growth is primarily dominated by IT software and services such as Custom Application Development and Maintenance (CADM), System Integration, IT Consulting, Application Management, Software testing, Web services etc.

At ITME, students are exposed to contemporary system building tools right at the outset of the B.Tech programme in Information Technology. They are inducted into the discipline through symbiosis of a wide spectrum of application knowledge, statistical expertise on raw data collecting, usage of complex computers and communication essentials and so on. Other than technical skill development, students are also prepared through presentations and seminars in their curriculum. Special care is taken to present final year students with actual and practical projects through application system design and development in the computer laboratories using state of the art technologies.

Affiliation:

The B.Tech course in Information Technology is approved by West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT) and AICTE.

Student Prospects

The fastest growing sectors of the global service economy - education, financial services, insurance and health services - are all seeking better technological resources. According to experts, India will witness huge increase in export revenues. This indicates a corresponding increase in employment opportunities in the future.

ITME students are selected by reputed software companies and IT firms like Infosys, Wipro and Cognizant Technologies during the campus placements. The Institute also has excellent placement records with hardware manufacturing companies, software development firms and computer training companies.

Departmental Facilities

ITME has extremely sophisticated computer laboratories for IT training. Each of the five labs are provided with nearly 40 advanced computers that are sufficiently equipped with tools and software for an all-inclusive learning experience. In addition, IT students have the privilege of availing computer facilities in several specialised sections to have a complete IT training session. The Information Technology Department at ITME has a series of essential divisions like –
